AI visibility checker

AI visibility checker

Enter your domain. We ask AI search the questions your buyers ask, without using your brand name, and show whether you are named, in what position, who is named instead and which sources the answers rely on.

What "AI visibility" means

AI visibility is how often AI assistants and AI search features name your brand when someone asks for options in your category. It is measured on unbranded questions, because those are the moments when a buyer does not yet know you exist.

It is a different outcome from a search ranking. A results page shows ten links and the buyer chooses. An AI answer usually names three to five options and explains them. If you are not one of those names, there is no page two to fall back on.

Because answers vary from run to run, visibility is a rate, not a yes-or-no. A sensible checker samples many prompts and reports the share in which you appear, along with your average position when you do.

What this checker does

  1. 01Reads your website to work out your category and closest competitors.
  2. 02Writes 10 realistic buyer prompts for that category: best-of lists, alternatives to the market leader, head-to-head comparisons, and questions with constraints such as price or team size. None include your brand.
  3. 03Gets each answer with live web search enabled, the way buyers see it.
  4. 04Parses every answer for your brand, your position, the competitors named and the sources cited.
  5. 05Returns a visibility score from 0 to 100, your mention rate, the competitors winning your slots, the most cited sources and a first fix you can act on.

Why asking an assistant about yourself is misleading

The most common self-check is to type "what is [my brand]?" into an assistant. It feels reassuring when the answer is accurate, but it tests the wrong thing. Buyers who already know your name are not the ones you are losing.

The useful test asks the questions a stranger would ask, repeats them, and compares you with the brands that are named. That is what the checker automates.

What our own data shows

We ran unbranded buyer questions ("best [category]", "[competitor] alternatives", "X vs Y") through AI search for 50 software brands. These are the only numbers we quote anywhere on this site, and we quote them as they are.

  • 39 of 50 brands (78%) were never named in any answer to their own category's buyer questions.
  • All 30 brands that had launched in the previous month scored 0.
  • Being known is not enough: an established e-signature tool scored 52/100 and an AI voice tool scored 37/100.
  • In 33 of 50 cases the most cited source was a competitor's own website: its "vs" pages, docs and help centre.
  • Review sites were the most cited source for only 6 of 50 brands.

How to read your score

  • 0 to 39, invisible. You are rarely or never named. This is normal for new brands. Start with a plain category sentence on your homepage and a presence on one or two of the sources the report lists.
  • 40 to 69, at risk. You appear for some prompts but competitors own the comparisons. Publish honest "vs" and "alternatives" pages and check how you are described.
  • 70 to 100, visible. Defend it. Keep comparison pages current, track monthly and watch for a competitor overtaking you on a specific prompt.

What to look at besides the score

  • Competitors named instead. These are the brands buyers are being sent to. Sometimes they are not the competitors you track internally.
  • Cited sources. The domains repeated across answers are where your effort pays off. In our data a competitor's own site was the top source for 33 of 50 brands, while review sites topped the list for only 6.
  • Descriptions. When you are named, read the sentence around your name. A wrong price, an outdated feature or the wrong audience is a fix in itself.
  • Prompt types. Brands often appear for "best X" but vanish on "X vs Y". The pattern tells you which page type to publish next.

Privacy and cost

The check uses only your public website. We do not need access to any of your accounts and we do not ask for personal data to run it. Reports are private by default and shareable by link.

The check is free. If you want a deeper, done-for-you review with 20 prompts, a competitor comparison and a 30-day fix plan, the one-time audit is $299 and arrives within 48 hours. Ongoing weekly tracking starts at $79 a month.

A worked example of reading a report

Imagine an invoicing tool for freelancers. The report shows it named in 2 of 10 answers, both times in fourth or fifth position, and only for "cheapest invoicing app" prompts. Three larger competitors take the first slots in almost every answer. The most cited source across all ten answers is the market leader's own "vs" page, followed by one roundup article and a forum thread.

That pattern tells a clear story. The product is known as a cheap option and nothing else. The market leader's comparison page is defining the category. The quickest wins are an honest comparison page of its own, a pitch to the author of the cited roundup, and a homepage sentence that says who the product is for rather than only that it is affordable. None of that requires new tools or budget, only the right order of work.

After the check: a short action list

  1. 01Rewrite your title tag, H1 and meta description so the category is stated in one plain sentence.
  2. 02Open the three most cited sources in your report and decide how you could legitimately appear on each.
  3. 03Publish one honest comparison page against the competitor named most often.
  4. 04Make pricing and docs public and crawlable, and add FAQ structured data and an llms.txt.
  5. 05Re-check in four to six weeks with the same prompts so the comparison is fair.

Questions

Is the AI visibility checker free?
Yes. The check and report are free and need no account. Ongoing tracking and the done-for-you audit are paid.
Which AI assistants does it check?
It tests answers from AI search with live web search, the way buyers see them. Customer reports focus on the result (named or not, position, competitors, sources) rather than on one vendor.
Why is my score 0 when my product is good?
AI answers lean on third-party sources. New and niche brands are often absent until reviews, roundups, comparisons and community threads mention them. In our data all 30 brands launched in the previous month scored 0.
Does it use my brand name in the prompts?
No. Prompts are unbranded so the score reflects discovery by buyers who do not know you yet.
How often should I check AI visibility?
Monthly is enough for most brands; weekly if you are actively publishing comparison pages or pitching cited sources.
Can agencies use it for client brands?
Yes. Agencies can run checks for prospects, and the Agency plan tracks up to 25 client brands with white-label reports.
