llms.txt and structured data for SaaS: what helps AI read your site

A practical guide to llms.txt, SoftwareApplication and FAQPage schema, and site hygiene that helps AI assistants describe your product accurately.

What these files do and don't do

llms.txt and structured data help assistants understand your product accurately: name, category, pricing, audience. They won't make you recommended on their own. Third-party mentions do that. Think of them as accuracy, not ranking.

llms.txt

  • Place it at /llms.txt as plain markdown.
  • Start with a one-line description: product, category, audience.
  • Link your key pages: pricing, docs, comparisons, changelog, with a short note on each.
  • Keep it short and current.

Structured data

  • Organization: name, logo, url, sameAs links to your social and directory profiles.
  • SoftwareApplication: applicationCategory, operatingSystem and offers with prices.
  • FAQPage on pages with real Q&A.
  • BreadcrumbList on deep pages.

Site hygiene

  • Server-render key copy. Don't hide pricing or features behind client-side JavaScript.
  • Allow reputable AI and search crawlers in robots.txt if you want to be cited.
  • Submit a sitemap to Google Search Console and Bing Webmaster Tools; several assistants use Bing-backed search.
